CAMBODIA - Coming Home Finally

Published in Tonle SapsmilesphotographylakeCambodia by Julian W.

It's been a hectic week so far...lots of photo opportunities and it's been action, action and more action from daybreak to last light! Although extremely gruelling, I have no complains whatsoever :)

I would like to extend this trip indefinitely but  there are tons of things waiting for me back home. And hordes of people I would like to catch up too! Although this is the first time that I've stepped into Cambodia, i'm sure it will definitely not be my last.

Talking about photography, We visited Chong Khreas Floating Village today and it was really thought-provoking. The villagers are totally dependent on the Tonle Sap lake and its rich ecosystem & biodiversity, yet conservation efforts are not being done enough to improve the general aspects of the great lake. Imagine the living conditions: An entire family of 6 can sleep in a hut measuring not bigger than 3.5m wide and 5m long. Hmm...How could it be possible right? The folks have nothing in the hut: no furniture, no creature comforts and no money. All they have are dusty piece of cloth (which they called blanket), to barely cover their tired bodies during the cool evenings. You can never imagine poverty till you see this.

Jay has some really passionate thoughts and ideas about the place and I benefited from the thought-provoking sharing...coming away more determined to let my photos do the "helping". Whenever, whatever and whereever  - possible.  All I can say is that "WE ARE FORTUNATE" is an understatement. Period.
