Cambodia after-thoughts...Published in travel, photography, education, Cambodia by Julian W. "Being a photographer is a wonderful privilege. It offers me a window to see what others cannot see, experience more than what others can feel & listen with a genuine heart that others can hardly comprehend. " - Julian W. I'm dropping a few lines here to share with you on my after-thoughts of my recent Cambodia trip. This was my third visit to the country in a year, as Cambodia has touched me tremendously...so much so that I wanted to go back again and again. A big reason for this keen interest is because of its wonderful people. If you're keen on portraitures, this is the place to visit. The folks there are not shy of the camera, and it is truly a place where it can be called the "Portrait Heaven". A cove of photo opportunities exist - Portraiture, Cultural, History, Landscapes, Infrared...just to name a few. ![]() As you probably heard, Cambodia had about a third of its population exterminated during the Khmer Rouge period and the economy was at a standstill. Although its citizen feel down, they certainly have high hopes for the future. You will realise that the windows to their soul speak volumes of their turbulent past and they certainly give hints of a country learning to stand on its feet again. During my time in Cambodia, I had the privilege to visit several neighbourhood schools. It makes me ponder about our wonderful educational experience back at home and also makes me think about what I can possibly do to help these unprivileged students. Hmm...perhaps a good way is to lead a photography expedition to Cambodia, and request for all participants to make a nominal donation towards the purchase of stationery. These will then be distributed to the schools, so that the students can benefit directly.
Alright, I shall set this down as a resolution for the new year, and hopefully I will be able to lead a group out to Cambodia sometime soon. Stay tuned to this site for more updates okie? And I certainly look forward to your participation! Sincerely,
